Two Types of Mouth Guards:

  • 1. Generic Boil-Bite Mouth Guard: Boil-bite mouth guard is cheaper than dentist fabricated versions, but they sometimes can be difficult to fit, dislodge during play and interfere with speech and breathing.
  • 2. Custom Fit Dentist Fabricated Mouth Guard: Ascot Vale Smiles and the ADA recommend those children playing contact sport to have a custom dentist made mouthguard. This has the advantage of better comfort and fit, stability, and of course better protection against dental and facial trauma. They also are less likely to be removed during training or game time due to the ability to speak and breath easier compared to a generic boil-bite mouthguard.
